Sponsorship
Declaration

A Sponsorship Declaration is required when a Maldivian citizen or a foreign national holding a valid Professional category Work Visa intends to sponsor the entry of a foreign national into the Maldives for an approved purpose. The Sponsorship Declaration must be submitted to and approved by Immigration before the arrival of the sponsored individual.

Purpose of Sponsorship

A Sponsorship Declaration may be submitted for purposes as follows:

  • Visiting
  • Dependent Visa
  • Marriage Visa

Eligibility

The sponsor must be either:

  • A Maldivian citizen; or
  • A foreign national holding a valid Professional category Work Visa.

Required Documents

  • Completed Application Form (IM20).
  • Passport copy of the sponsored individual.
  • National Identity Card of the sponsor (for Maldivian sponsors).
  • Work Permit Card or Employment Approval (for foreign sponsors).
  • Proof of relationship, where applicable (e.g. marriage certificate or birth certificate).
  • Company seal on the application form (where the sponsor is a company).
  • Any additional supporting documents, If required.

Application Process

  1. Log in to the IMUGA Portal.
  2. Navigate to Visa and select Apply for a Visa.
  3. Confirm that the sponsored individual is currently outside the Maldives.
  4. Select Sponsorship and choose the appropriate sponsorship category.
  5. Complete the application form.
  6. Upload the required supporting documents.
  7. Review the application and submit.

Processing Time

Applications are normally processed within five (5) working days. Applicants are advised to submit their applications well in advance of the intended travel date.

Important Information

  • The Sponsorship Declaration option is available only if the sponsored individual is outside the Maldives at the time of application.
  • Once approved, the Sponsorship Approval Slip may be accessed and downloaded through the IMUGA Portal.
  • The sponsored individual must enter the Maldives within 30 days from the date of approval.
  • Sponsors should ensure that the purpose of travel, intended duration of stay, and proposed travel dates provided in the application are accurate.
  • Applicants are advised to purchase airline tickets only after the Sponsorship Declaration has been approved.
